Pune: In a shocking incident, a notorious criminal was murdered with a sharp weapon in the Yerawada area late Wednesday night due to a longstanding rivalry. The Yerawada police have arrested the absconding suspects involved in the crime.

The victim has been identified as Sudhir alias Balu Chandrakant Gavas, aged 25, a resident of Jayaprakash Nagar, Yerawada. The police have arrested Pravin Ramchandra Acharya, aged 44, Swapnil Pravin Acharya, aged 24, and Ravikiran Ramchandra Acharya, aged 35, all residents of Jayaprakash Nagar, Yerawada, in connection with the murder.

Gavas had previously been involved in a dispute with the Acharya family. He had six serious charges, including assault, registered against him at the Yerawada police station. Gavas was recently released on bail from Yerawada Jail.

On Tuesday (July 16) night, Gavas got into an altercation with the Acharya family and subsequently went into hiding. Around 2:30 AM, Gavas was spotted in the Jayaprakash Nagar area.

The accused, Pravin, Swapnil, and Ravikiran, began pursuing him. Gavas tried to hide near Akash Mini Market, but the accused caught up with him and attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police rushed to the scene and took Gavas to Sassoon Hospital, where he was declared dead before treatment could begin.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindrakumar Shelke visited the crime scene, and the police managed to arrest the absconding suspects.

Recently, a convicted prisoner serving a life sentence had escaped from the open prison in Yerawada. The escaped prisoner, identified as Atmaram alias Atmya Ladkya Bhavar, is originally from Devipada village in Wada taluka, Palghar district.

Due to his good behavior, Bhavar was transferred to the open prison, where inmates are assigned agricultural work. On Saturday, Bhavar was present in the open prison throughout the day.
