Pune: Police investigations into the murder of 17-year-old girl took a new turn on Tuesday as it was revealed that the molestation case suspects had no role in her murder. Police say, the girl was murdered by her friend who was in a one-sided love affair with the victim.
Chakan police had earlier arrested three men identified as Chandrakant Patilbuwa Kolekar, Akshay Kisan Kolekar and Sunil Mahadev Kolekar, all residents of Thoptewadi village in Khed taluka of Pune district in the murder case. They will be released soon, said Police Inspector Prakash Dhas of Chakan police station.
The girl was found murdered on July 24 and her body was recovered from a thicket under a lemon tree near the Aaskhed Khurd canal in Khed taluka. The girl and her uncle had filed a molestation case against the three men a few days back before her murder and hence the needle of suspicion initially was toward the role of these three suspects. These suspects were arrested and remanded to five days police custody by a local court. However, during the interrogation, it was revealed that they had no role in the murder.
According to officials investigating the case, the girl had gone to a grocery store on July 24 at around 1 pm. The store was about 3 kilometres away from her home. The girl had a conversation with her father over the phone at around 3 pm. But after that, she was out of contact. The girl did not return home in time and thus her family members started searching for her. One of her friends had then informed family members about her dead body lying under a thicket near the canal. The girl had injuries on her head and face caused due to a hard object and had died on the spot. She was also stripped off her clothes.
When the role of suspects was cleared, police officials started looking for other clues. They found out that the girl’s friend had accompanied them and shown the exact location of the murder. When police started questioning him about the details, he confessed to have murdered the girl. Police have detained the boy and he will be arrested and produced in the court on Wednesday (July 29).
Police said, according to some eyewitnesses and information revealed during interrogation, the boy had a one-sided love affair with the girl and a few days back they both had been in a fight. After killing the girl, the boy returned home to take a bath and changed his clothes immediately.
