Coronavirus Pune: Jobless youths loot policeman

Pune: An uniformed policeman from Pimpri-Chinchwad was looted of cash, mobile phone and other valuables worth Rs 9,000 on the Alandi - Chakan road on Tuesday night. Now cops have arrested the three robbers.

Burglars held
Police Naik Indrakumar Tukaram Dhotre had lodged an FIR against them with Chakan police station. The arrested persons have been identified as Ashwin Arun Rokde (27), Shahrukh Pathan (22), Pratik Khadase (21), all natives of Washim district, who currently resided in Chakan.

Dhotre is posted with Chakan police station under Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. Around 8.30 pm, he left home in Alandi and was going to join his night shift duty at the police station. He was driving a motorcycle.

Robbery was the motive
According to police, the robbers accosted Dhotre near Rase village on Alandi – Chakan road. They attacked him with wooden sticks and injured him. After that, they snatched away cash, mobile phone, ATM card. They pushed Dhotre in a ditch before fleeing from the spot. Dhotre complained at Chakan police station in the early hours of Wednesday.

In police custody
Acting on a tip-off received by API Satish Kamble that some youths were roaming around on a motorcycle for selling stolen phone in Chakan, sleuths from Crime Branch unit 3 and anti-vehicle theft squad arrested the three persons on Chakan-Shikrapur road. 

Police have seized mobile phone and motorcycle, totally worth Rs 30,000. They were produced before a judicial magistrate court which remanded them to police custody till April 27.

Police sub-inspector Vijay Jagdale, who is investigating the case, said, “The accused persons are labourers. The investigation has revealed that robbery was the motive behind attacking the policeman in uniform.”

DCP (Crime) Sudhir Hiremath and ACP (Crime 1) RR Patil, ACP (Crime 2) Shridhar Jadhav supervised the investigation team. 

The team members included Senior Police Inspectors Sudhir Aspat, Shankar Babar, Assistant Inspector Satish Kamble, Police Sub-Inspector Girish Chamle, and policemen Viju Kamble, Pathan, Sanap, Chavan, Vivekanand Sapkale, Nitin Parale, Yadu Adhari, Nathak Kekan, Yogesh Kolekar, Sachin More , Trinyan Balsaraf, Sagar Jainak, Raj Hanmante, Pramod Dhakne, Mahesh Bhalchim, Shashikant Nangre, Arun Sable, Amol Sakore, Sachin Ugle, technical analyst head constable Nagesh Mali and Rajendra Shete.
