Pune: Mayor Murlidhar Mohol has tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. He has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Mohol himself tweeted this information and has informed that his condition is stable and he is recovering well.
"I had a fever and got myself tested for COVID-19. The report of this test has come positive. My condition is stable and I am recovering well. I will soon resume my work in service of Punekars. Meanwhile I will be in touch with all officials and take review of the ground situation regularly," Mohol has said in his tweet.
Mohol is a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Kothrud, who took charge as Mayor in November 2019 replacing another BJP Corporator Mukta Tilak. Mohol was active since the first COVID-19 patient was found in the city. He was involved in all relief work and visited all containment and non-containment zones to overlook the administration's preparations in the battle against COVID-19. He regularly attended all meetings and gave suggestions to civic and health officials for reducing the count of COVID cases in the city. His work and commitment was recently appreciated by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar in front of party chief Sharad Pawar.
Deepali Dhumal, opposition leader in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) along with four other corporators, has also tested positive for COVID-19. Some senior officials have also been tested for coronavirus and their results are awaited. More than 100 PMC employees have already tested positive for COVID-19.
In Pune city so far, more than twelve thousand people have been infected and recovered from COVID-19. Around 807 patients were found positive while 619 patients were discharged on Friday. This included 399 patients from Naidu and PMC hospitals, 207 from private hospitals and 13 from Sassoon General Hospital. More than 4,250 swab tests were conducted in a single day in the city. This is the highest count of swab tests conducted on any single day since the coronavirus outbreak started. More than 1,28,448 people have been swab tested in the city so far. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Pune city has crossed 20 thousand mark till now.
