Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been excluded from the red-zone category and moved into a non-red zone category which will be effective from May 22, according to the revised list by the Maharashtra government.

The new orders of the Maharashtra government were issued on Tuesday, which states that the status of Pimpri-Chinchwad will change from Friday.

All the special rules and restrictions will be in place for the containment areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad even in Lockdown 4.0.

From 69 containment zones in the city, relaxation has been given to 27 areas as no new coronavirus cases have been reported there. In the rest of the 42 containment zones in PCMC area, only medical shops, grocery stores and restaurants selling takeaway food will be allowed to operate.

Public transport, namely State Transport (ST) buses and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses will not be operational. Hotels, malls and salons continue to remain shut. Similarly, senior citizens (over the age of 65), children below 10 years of age and pregnant women should remain at home, the order stated.

Taxi, cabs, autorickshaw and private four-wheelers will be allowed on the road. However, apart from the driver, only two more passengers will be allowed to travel in four-wheelers. Also, government and semi-government offices will resume work.

PCMC commissioner Shravan Hardikar said the civic body will prepare detailed guidelines in the next two days.
