Pune: Swargate police scanned footage from around a 100 CCTV cameras on Sunday (October 25) to trace and locate an auto-rickshaw driver. The reason being that a corporator's son had forgotten his bag containing gold ornaments inside the autorickshaw while he was enroute his home from a hospital.
According to police, Corporator Kavita Vairage's son was headed towards his home from a hospital on Sunday at around 12 noon. He was injured and had gone to the hospital for treatment. He had a bag of 45 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh. After reaching home, he alighted from the autorickshaw but forgot to carry his bag. He realised this after a while and immediately approached Swargate police station.
Senior Police Inspector Brahmanand Naikawadi from Swargate police station took serious cognizance of this incident. Police constables Dnyana Bade and Manoj Bhokare started checking footage from CCTV cameras from the corporator's residence. They scanned more than footage from 100 CCTVs and managed to trace and locate the autorickshaw driver in Katraj junction.
When the auto driver was detained, he was unaware of any bag left in his vehicle. He returned the bag to the police. Vairage's son verified and informed the police that all the ornaments were intact and safe.
