COVID-19 Pune: 300 daily tests in Haveli tehsil villages adjoining Pune city

Pune: Haveli tehsil villages which are adjacent to urban areas of Pune city are conducting the highest number of tests - 300 tests daily - for COVID-19. Proximity to the urban centre and large scale daily commute to and fro the city areas has resulted in more than 4000 cases being identified in the Haveli tehsil.

Block Development Officer Sachin Barwakar said, "As the suspected patients are being tested immediately, those who are diagnosed as COVID-19 positive are undergoing treatment without delay. As a result, the mortality rate is low at 1.82 per cent, and the total recovery rate is 79.62 per cent, despite the total number of patient's crossing over the 4,000 mark. The doubling period of COVID-19 cases is 22 days.

SDO Baravkar appealed that children, pregnant women and senior citizens should not step out of their homes for non-essential purposes. If you need to step out, please wear a mask. As soon as COVID-19 symptoms are identified, get yourself tested at the government health facilities.

Haveli Tehsil Health Officer Dr Sachin Kharat said, "72 new patients tested positive in Haveli taluka on Monday (August 17). Two patients have died, bringing the death toll to 74 so far. There are 752 micro containment zones in the tehsil."

Block Development Officer Prashant Shirke said, "The population of Haveli tehsil is around 11 to 12 lakhs. Several villages are close to the city. The number of people going to the city for business or work or employment is large. As a result, COVID-19 infection among citizens of this village is increasing at a similar rate as that of Pune city."
