Pune: The positivity rate (ratio of COVID-19 positive identified patients to the total tests conducted) has fallen to 20.5 per cent despite the highest daily testing conducted in the district. District administration has heaved a sigh of relief as of now even as it is gearing up for the second wave of COVID-19 cases which is expected to hit soon as a result of the lockdown relaxations being implemented since July 24.
Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao informed on Sunday (August 9) that the total COVID-19 cases in Pune district are now 1,05,523 of which 76,426 patients have recovered. The recovery rate of patients in the district is 72.43 per cent. The active patient count is now 26,683 and so far 2,414 patients have succumbed to the COVID-19 disease. The case-fatality ratio in Pune district is now 2.29, slightly lower than earlier weeks. District administration has planned to bring this fatality rate below 1 per cent as per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines.
Pune district has conducted the highest number of COVID-19 tests in the state. The total tests conducted so far has crossed the 4.83 lakh mark. Even though the count of new cases of COVID-19 has increased due to higher number of tests, it has helped in breaking the chain the coronavirus spread by identifying high-risk close contacts and quarantining them in the least time.
