Pune: The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune had organised a Science Outreach programme named ‘Jigyasa’ that connects CSIR scientists with school students. CSIR along with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has already launched the nation-wide scientist-student connect programme in various CSIR laboratories.
The programme was held from June 30 to July 2. The main objective of the programme is to expose students to the excitement of science through demonstrations and talks by scientists. About 100 students and 10 teachers across 10 Kendriya Vidyalayas from Pune participated in this programme.
During the course of three days, students were exposed to the concepts in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology by demonstrating the scientific ideas in a manner designed to further their understanding and excitement.
Students were exposed to some of the research carried out at lab via talks and demonstration of experiments in the areas of development of high-performance material, computational chemistry, nano-technology and separation technologies for biomolecules.
The history behind several key scientific discoveries, notably structure of DNA, was also discussed to demystify the process of scientific discovery and convey the trials, tribulations and joy of scientific research.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed by Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan and Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar on Thursday.
