Pune: The last moment decision to cancel his and other family members plan to travel to their native place in Manchar turned to be fatal for Dnyaneshwar Madhukar Temkar, a 40-year-old man who died in the unfortunate LPG cylinder blast at Ashtavinayak society in Mahadev Nagar in Dighi on Sunday (August 9).
Temkar had planned to visit his village Dudulgaon in Awasari at Manchar and initially had decided to leave DIghi on Saturday (August 8) evening itself. However, for some unavoidable reasons, Temkar changed his decision at the last moment and decided to leave on Sunday morning at 7 am. Unfortunately, half an hour before their planned departure, a LPG cylinder blast in the adjacent flat caused the wall collapsed under the debris of which Temkar got trapped and died.
Investigations into the gas cylinder blast incident has revealed this information. There were many speculations doing the round regarding the reason behind the blast. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) unit was also pressed into action on Sunday night which looked for any other cause of the explosion. Raviraj Kamble, Police Sub-Inspector from Dighi police station said, “BDDS and Pimpri-Chinchwad Fire Brigade ruled out any other possibility other than the LPG cylinder explosion due to overnight leakage.”
Thorough investigations and statements of relatives, neighbours revealed the series of actions that took place before and after the explosion. According to Dighi police, Temkar’s sister Shyamal Pachpute and her daughter Shravani (14) had come on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan to visit Dnyaneshwar Temkar. Shravani had stayed at Temkar’s flat while Shyamal returned to her home. When Temkar decided to travel to Dudulgaon, the Pachpute family came to pick up Shravani on Saturday evening. But Temkar insisted that he would drop the Pachpute family to their home on his way to Dudulgaon. So the Pachpute family again stayed at Temkar’s flat and the next morning the unfortunate incident happened. Since the other family members of Temkar and Pachpute family were in other rooms they received minor injuries but Dnyaneshwar Temkar got seriously injured.
Total 13 people were injured in the blast of which seven were children including a 2.5-year-old boy. The explosion took place in the flat owned by Mahendra Surwade.
