Diwali sweets sent to soldiers

PUNE: Keeping their tradition running for the eleventh year, Capt Uttam Patil (retd), proprietor of Universal Group, has sent Diwali sweets for 3,500 soldiers of three units of the Army.

The sweets were handed over to the representative of 7 Garhwal Rifles (about 1,000 soldiers) and 14 Rashtriya Rifles units (about 1,000 soldiers) at the company’s office on Monday. Earlier, on October 27, representative of Assam Rifles were handed over the sweets in Kolhapur.

The sweets are specially made for the Army units under the close supervision of family members of the Capt Uttam Patil. 

“Armed Forces’ personnel carry out their duty in far-flung border areas, be it bitter cold, torrential rain, hot sun, thick jungles infested with leeches or high mountains. For them, there is no Diwali or Dussehra or any other festival. And they bear this for the safety of us all. A remembrance of the high sacrifices of service personnel, is the purpose behind this small token of love being handed over,” said Capt Patil. 

The sweets boxes were handed over to Rifleman PB Shinde and Rifleman RS Jadhav from 14 RR, and Hav Anil Dutt and Naik Harshvardhan of 7 Garhwal in a ceremony at the company office at Pune by Brig Sunil Bodhe in presence of Executive Director Col Prakash Patil and Director Capt AG Bagaitkar.
