Pune: Yet again in a cheating case, a con man duped a jeweller in Pune of Rs 50 lakh by selling him a 'magic sand'. A man cheated a jeweller in Pune into believing that the 'magic sand' he is selling will convert into gold after heating.
WHAT HAPPENED EXACTLY
A man who hails from Hadapsar area in Pune purchased four kgs of ‘magic sand’ from a man whom he known for over a year. The con man also made the jeweller believe that the magic sand is from West Bengal and it will turn into gold upon heating.
The jeweller gradually fell for the trick and borrowed 4 kgs of sand for Rs 50 lakh. The jeweller when realised that he has been duped of Rs 50 lakh he rushed to the police. A complaint was been filed at the Hadapsar Police Station.
According to the complainant, the con man came to jewellery shop about a month ago to get a ring. With frequent visits, the duo became became friendly with each other. Also, the man got close to the jeweller's family members.
The suspect gave sand of four kgs and convinced the jeweller that this is magic sand from West Bengal and it will turn gold once heated. The jeweller eventually fell for the trick and purchased the sand for Rs 30 lakh of cash and gold worth of Rs 20 lakh.
Later, when the jeweller came to know that he has been cheated after trying to light the sand, he filed complaint with the police.
The police have booked the accused under sections relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police are investigating the matter further.
