Pune: With graph of novel coronavirus showing an inclining trend, Pune’s daily COVID-19 case count crossed 2,000-mark on Sunday. Pune achieved this grim milestone after five months. It was October 2020 when the district witnessed a tally of 2,000.
With a sudden spike in the cases of COVID-19, the authorities are taking additional measures to contain the spread. According to the data released by the district’s health department, 2,044 cases were reported in Pune on Sunday. Out of 2,044 cases, 984 were reported from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas followed by 629 from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). While, 431 are reported from cantonment and rural areas. Eight deaths were reported from Pune on Sunday, according to the health department, taking the death tally to 9,303.

From past few weeks, Pune district has consistently been reporting more than 1,000 cases every day.
Pune accounts for 17.95 per cent of the new COVID cases recorded in Maharashtra which reported more than 10,000 new cases on two days in a row. Maharashtra on Sunday reported 11,141 new cases, taking the tally to 22,19,727 while 38 deaths pushed the total to 52,478.
