Pune: The distribution of the most number of hearing aids in eight hours on October 26 at Shri Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi, has made a world record. With the help of MP Supriya Sule, free hearing aid distribution camp was organised by Starkey Hearing Foundation, Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan and Tata Trust.
During the camp, 4,047 hearing aids were fitted in eight hours. The ‘Guinness World Records’ has acknowledged the feat. The previous record was of 3,911 hearing aids being fitted and it was held by National Rural Health Mission and Manipur government.
Speaking about the event, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar said, “This is by far, the largest hearing aid distribution programme organised under one roof. It is likely to be recorded in the Guinness World Records.”
MP Supriya Sule explained the role behind organising this event. “We decided to organise this event on behalf of Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan and Starkey Foundation. Starkey Foundation provided us with the listening instruments at a discounted price. After this, hearing aids were provided to deaf students with the help of the Tata Trust, Pawar Charitable Trust and other organisations. These kids are hearing anything for the first time in their lives and the happiness they get is a matter of satisfaction for us,” Sule said.
This event was organised by Starkey Hearing Foundation, Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, Tata Trust Pawar Charitable Trust, Thakarsi Group, RVS Educational and Charitable Foundation. The programme received special support from Maharashtra State Disabled Welfare Commissioner, Mahatma Gandhi Seva Sangh, District District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, Pune.
