Indian Science Congress to be held in city in January 2021

PUNE: If you are curious to know more about the agricultural and forestry science, anthropology and behavioural science and rural development in 2021, then you have the opportunity to witness that during the 108th Indian Science Congress which will be be held in the city after two decades.

“The theme for the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) 2021 will be ‘Science and technology for sustainable development with women’s empowerment,” said General President Vijay Laxmi Saxena during a press conference held in the city on Thursday. 

The science congress will be held from January 3-7 in 2021 at Symbiosis International University (SIU), Lavale. 

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Congress,” the general president said.

Speaking about the theme, Vijay Lakshmi said, “If the 1.20 million Indian women who have undergone secondary education enter the workforce, then we will progress by 18 years in one stroke and Rs 30 trillion will be increased in the Indian GDP. The science congress will also consist of three important congresses which are children science congress, women science congress and science communicators that will be held during the event. 

SIU Chancellor SB Mujumdar has proposed to introduce a separate villager’s science congress with an aim to address concerns of farmers from different regions. 

The organisers are expecting a footfall of about 15,000 attendees including scientists, researchers, teachers and students, Nobel laureates and luminaries from across India and abroad.
