Pune: A new Joggers’ Park is being created on the banks of the Bhairoba Nala in the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) area. As officials of the PCB have planned to beautify the nala and renovate it to attract tourists and local people.
A host of civic issues have been plaguing areas located along the nala. Many local residents have been complaining to the PCB about dumping of garbage into the open nala, which has been causing stench and unhygienic conditions in the area.
In a bid to improve the situation, the board sought environment consultants’ advice on the nala’s revival, nuisance reduction, hard and soft landscaping work.
“Considering the pathetic condition of Bhairoba Nala, the board has been planning several measures on beautification and cleaning of the nala. The board will renovate and beautify it using funds made available through the Swacch Bharat Mission of the Central government,” said PCB CEO DN Yadav.
The PCB has planned to concretise the nala bed completely and build walls on both sides along it. The new design includes fencing on both sides of the walls, a jogging track on one side and a water embankment or check dam at a certain distance or intervals to prevent overflow of water.
“This will not only beautify the area, it will also attract many localities and tourists to walk or jog in the area. It can turn out to be a hangout for people,” added Yadav.
The elected members of the board have welcomed the idea of beautification of the nala and have also suggested that more funds can be raised through members of parliament (MP) and state legislators’ development funds.
