PUNE: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has launched a campaign against defaulters across Pune district for not paying Rs 170 crore dues of electricity bills. The officials claim that if they don't pay the dues, the electricity supply will be disconnected.
According to the officials, the defaulters are from households, commercial users, industrial consumers and agricultural pumps in Khed, Maval, Junnar, Ambegaon and Mulshi tehsil in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Chief Engineer MG Shinde has appealed to defaulters to make payments of the due bills and cooperate with MSEDCL.
At present, 6,84,567 consumers of the domestic, commercial and industrial category have an outstanding balance of Rs 170 crore in the Pune division. Out of this, 5,81,340 household consumers have Rs 107.39 crore outstanding dues, 89,720 commercial users owe Rs 43,61,000 while 13,507 industrial consumers have to pay 19.15 crore outstanding dues.
Due to the increase of the outstanding amount and non-payment of bills in the said period, the action has been initiated to disconnect the power supply of these defaulters. In addition, 84,080 agriculture pumps have 226.63 crore dues from electricity bills. The electricity supply of these pumps will be discontinued if the outstanding dues are not paid.
“A campaign to break the power supply of the defaulters in the villages of Khed, Mawal, Junnar, Ambegaon and Mulshi along with other cities like Pune, Pimpri, Lonavla, Chakan and Talegaon have been intensified. A special team of officers and staffs of the respective offices of MSEDCL have participated in this campaign. Apart from this, even after the temporary or permanent power supply is disconnected, the government has been instructed to take criminal action against the unauthorised use of electricity,” said a senior official of MSEDCL.
