PUNE: Around 500 residents of Wagholi, Chandan Nagar, Wadgaonsheri, Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar will hold a signature campaign to highlight the issue of frequent accidents on Pune-Nagar Road.
Around 913 accidents occurred on Pune-Nagar Road in 2016 and the number for 2017 so far is already 1,039.
The residents will also hold a silent march from Wadgaonsheri Phata to Shastri Nagar Chowk on Sunday morning.
"All chowks on the road are packed with traffic, especially during peak hours. We want our grievances to reach public representatives from Pune," said a Viman Nagar resident.
The residents will hand over the signatures collected during the campaign to the collector, PMC commissioner, police commissioner and politicians like MP Anil Shirole, MLA Jagdish Mulik, Guardian Minister Girish Bapat and Mayor Mukta Tilak.
"We want a grade separator erected between Parnakuti Chowk and Wagholi, subways or foot over bridges for pedestrian, closure of Pune-Nagar Road from 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 9 pm for heavy vehicles and synchronised traffic signals," said a resident of Chandan Nagar.
