A man who had returned to Pune from the UK in the second week of December has been tested positive for coronavirus.
The health department's offical informed that the person's swab samples were e sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) to check if he has been infected by the new strain of virus.
The man was one of the 544 persons -- including 300 from Pune city who had returned to district recently. The data was provided by the Maharashtra government. According to the health department, the man is asymptomatic and is currently in home isolation.
Total 16 people who travelled to Maharashtra from the UK recently have tested positive for coronavirus and their samples have been sent to the NIV Pune for further testing.
After the new variant of coronavirus emerged in the UK, Indian government has suspended all flights to UK. Meanwhile, Maharashtra government has also imposed night curfew in the urban limits to curtail the further spread of coronavirus. The state government has also strict guidelines for those who have arrived in the state from Europe or Middle-East countries.
