Old Shivneri buses to get a makeover

Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to give a makeover to the interiors of Shivneri buses, which are over eight years old. In the first phase, 21 buses of Pune division will get a makeover.

The renovated look of interiors of Shivneri buses will include new curtains, charging points, stylish seats and covers, AC system, and overhead illumination.

As per information shared by MSRTC Pune Divisional Controller Yamini Joshi, “The makeover will be for those Shivneri buses, which have completed eight years and are owned by MSRTC. After the makeover, the buses will start plying on the roads.”

At present, there is no maintenance contract between MSRTC and any private party to maintain and repair buses of private contractors.

The ST corporation maintains and repairs only those buses, which are owned by them. There are several buses, which are not repaired due to their continuous travel.

The MSRTC had started Shivneri AC bus service around 10 years ago, to provide a comfortable journey to the passengers. At present, Pune division has around 66 Shivneri buses and out of this, 46 are owned by MSRTC and 20 belong to private contractors. The buses are running from Pune to Dadar, Thane, Borivali, Nashik and Aurangabad.

Four months ago, the MSRTC had also reduced the passenger fare, which got a good response.
