Pune: Driven by the good response for the electric bus fleet in Pune, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) added 10 electric buses to its fleet last week.
These buses are 12 metres long in length and are specially meant for the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) route. The authority is expecting to receive 60 more buses by the end of July and 55 more by the end of August, which will complete the 125 e-buses procurement contract.
In February this year, PMPML received the first lot of 25 e-buses that were 9 metres long and not compatible for the BRTS route. The PMPML has set up charging stations for these buses at Nigdi and Bhekrai Nagar.
"The new buses can be plied on the BRTS corridor. PMPML is in the process of getting a total of 500 e-buses which will not cause any pollution. The buses that we got in February are running in a flawless manner and are very popular with commuters," said PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Nayana Gunde.
"A prototype of the new bus was inspected by PMPML and CIRT (Central Institute of Road Transport) a few months ago after which production was undertaken by the contractor and now the supply has started," she said.
