Pune: A private agent on Monday was arrested outside Deputy RTO Pimpri Chinchwad office in connection with a bribe case for transferring registration of a vehicle to the Pune RTO office.

The bribe money was being demanded to obtain a No Objection Certificate from the Deputy RTO office at Pimpri Chinchwad. “Malwe had claimed that the money needs to be given to ‘officials at five different tables’ including the junior clerk, senior clerk, Assistant RTO and main RTO,” the complaint states.

The arrested agent has been identified as Akshay Maruti Malwe (24), a resident of Akurdi and originally from Satara. He works as a private agent at the Deputy RTO Pimpri Chinchwad located at Moshi. A civic-body run public transport bus driver Nilesh Vasant Mate (37), residing at Warje, has filed a complaint in this regard.

The trap was laid on Monday (January 11) evening 4.37 pm outside Deputy RTO Pimpri Chinchwad office in Moshi in front of Privia business centre. The FIR has been registered the same day at about 11.45pm at the MIDC Bhosari police station.

According to police, complainant Mate had filed a complaint on January 7 regarding Malwe demanding the bribe amount. Police had then recorded phone calls between Malwe and Mate on January 8 and January 11 regarding the demand for a bribe amount.

Malwe was allegedly demanding and settled for a bribe amount of Rs 1300 to ensure that registration of an old car purchased by Mate’s friend from Finolex Cable Limited company from the Deputy RTO Pimpri Chinchwad office was transferred to Pune RTO office. Malwe was nabbed after he accepted the bribe amount in front of the PRIVIA business centre near the Deputy RTO office.

All claims made by the RTO of making its premises ‘agent-free’ yet again proved false.
