Pune airport to have bay for Ola and Uber taxis

Pune: Fliers can now relax once they get down at Pune airport as they no longer need to wait or walk out from the airport premises for their pre-booked cabs.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) in alliance with Ola and Uber cab aggregators at Pune airport has decided to set up a dedicated bay for taxis.

Officials of Pune airport said the decision to set up a stand was taken as per the directives of AAI.

Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, AAI said, “AAI has always kept passenger convenience at the centre of its functioning. We are committed to giving the best possible experience to users of our airports. Bringing in leading cab service aggregators like Ola and Uber is a step in the direction of ensuring minimum hassle and better services to air travellers in India.”

“Indian aviation sector is witnessing unprecedented growth since last three-four years along with a dynamic shift in passengers’ profile and volume. Present generation passengers expect high quality service at airports where technology is playing a vital role,” said the senior official of Pune airport.

“The move will bring relief to thousands of fliers who chose app-based cabs for their intra-city transport. There is no doubt that cabs are in high demand for transport within the city. Since there was no arrangement for these cabs to park inside the airport premises, it is causing inconvenience to passengers as well as service providers,” said AAI officer.

Waiting instead of parking
Pune airport sees a daily footfall of around 15,000 passengers with approximately 5,000 four-wheelers coming for pickups and drops. At present, there is a parking lot in front of the
airport which has the capacity to accommodate 150 four-wheelers.

To avoid parking fees, passengers halt inside the airport premises as do app-based cabs and it creates obstacles. “This will reduce hassle. This alliance with cab aggregators like Ola and Uber would facilitate the air passengers in having a hassle free, reliable and affordable commutation,” said the official.
