Pune: The Pune airport with the new integrated terminal building will be ready by March 2022. With an investment of Rs 475 crore to handle 2,300 commuters the airport will be completed by March 2022, AAI (Airports Authority of India) said on Wednesday.

The restored terminal building will allow the airport to handle growing passenger traffic and ease the crowding inside the terminal.

More than 40 per cent of the work is completed and the new building, which is spread in over 5 lakh sq ft area, is likely to be completed by March 2022, AAI said.

Director of the city airport Kuldeep Singh said, “Once the airport completes its expansion, it will be able to handle at least 220 flights a day. It will have the capacity to operate 10 flights per hour. Efforts are being made to complete the expansion work before the designated time.”

· 1,700 domestic and 600 international passengers will be ferried during peak hours.

· The new building will be situated in five lakh square feet

· Airports Authority of India will spend Rs 475 crore

· 3,200 square feet reserved space for food stalls and other shops.

· Parking space that will accommodate 1,024 vehicles.

· There will be 10 aerobridges for commuters.

Pune airport is a civil reserve operated by the Airports Authority of India at the western side of Lohagaon Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force. It serves both domestic and international flights. The increasing flights have made the construction of a new terminal and runway expansion compulsory.
