Pune: Baramati city to be slum-free by 2022

Pune: Baramati city will be slum-free by 2022 with the first and second instalment of grants under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) started being distributed among slum dwellers. So far, out of 573 beneficiaries identified, 235 slum dwellers have started building their houses after receiving money from the central and state government.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, grants will be given to low-income people to build their own permanent houses. The central government will provide Rs 1.5 lakh and the state government will provide Rs 1 lakh to each slum dweller. The slum dweller will get a 330 sq ft pucca house in Baramati. The project will be implemented with the help of Maharashtra Housing Development Corporation. In the first phase, slum dwellers who have their own space have been distributed the grants.

Baramati Municipal Council has drawn up a list of 573 beneficiaries in such a category. A list of 323 slum dwellers has been prepared in the first phase and 250 in the second phase. Out of these 573, 235 people have started building houses. The first instalment of Rs 3.23 crore and second instalment of Rs 1 crore has been received and distributed by the municipal council.

The municipality has planned to build pucca houses for the slum dwellers residing in areas of Baramati city like Wadkenagar, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Colony, Tandulwadi, Pratibhanagar, Suhasnagar, Sathenagar, Ughada Maruti Mandir and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Stadium in front of the bus stand. Baramati Chief Executive Officer Kiranraj Yadav will be attending a meeting in Mumbai for further planning in this regard in the next few days.

Ajit Pawar has instructed the concerned authorities to ensure that every slum dweller in Baramati gets a house of at least 330 square feet in his possession. He directed the administration to take steps to make Baramati slum-free by 2022. Pawar has asked the officials to complete the project in time and to resolve all technical problems in this regard.

Kiranraj Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of Baramati Municipal Council said, "Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed to make Baramati slum free by the year 2022. Accordingly, work on the project is in full swing. Mantralaya-level issues are being sorted out quickly and efforts are being made to complete the project on time by addressing technical issues at the earliest."
