Baramati: Pune rural police have arrested a couple for carrying out 19 robberies in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The ‘Bunty-Babli’ would enter victims' houses as well-to-do people asking for help. Once inside, they would rob the families.
According to the police, the couple is identified as Navneet Madhukar Naik (40) and Priya Navneet Naik (36). The duo was arrested after a complaint was registered with the police by a resident in Baramati’s Sangvi area.
According to the police officials, a case of robbery was reported in the Sangvi area of Baramati where jewellery of Rs three lakh was robbed at the residence of Rahul Taware.
The case was submitted to Senior Police Inspector Padmakar Ghanavat. Subsequently, a team was formed under Ghanavat to nab the suspects. During the investigation, the police started to collect and analyse CCTV footages of the crime scenes as well as the escaping route used by the duo. The couple was framed in one such CCTV footage. Investigations revealed that the couple was hiding in Nagpur at a rented apartment.
As many as 19 cases are registered against the couple in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Cases of theft are registered against the duo at Bhor, Lonavala, Kopargaon, Raigad, Navi Mumbai, Lonand, Amravati, Kolhapur, Thane, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Washim, Sangli, Jalna and Bengaluru.
