PUNE: After the approval of the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court, a pilot project for e-payments of court fee, judicial deposits, fines and penalties is slated to start from the Pune District Court complex in Shivajinagar on December 15. This will be the first time such a facility is being started anywhere in the country.

The District Court administration officials said that this will bring about transparency in the payments and will make the whole process hassle-free for the lawyers and litigants.

Dr Atul Zende, Senior Court Manager (Pune), said, “At present only cash is accepted and that too till 3 pm only. We have seen that people come from far away places to make payments of Rs 200 by spending more than that on transport. They have stand in queues for long. Now this e-payment service will be available 24 hours and the lawyers and litigants can make payments by sitting at home. The District Court has entered into an MoU with the State Bank of India and have opened an account. If the amount is less than Rs 2,000 there will be no transaction fee. We are in talks to waive the transaction fee for amounts above Rs 2,000.”

As per the court records, every month about Rs 32 lakh is collected for fees less than Rs 2,000 and transactions above Rs 2,000 amount to Rs 11 crore.

The Court officials said at present cash is collected in the Nazir’s office till 3 pm. “Soon we will give point of sale at the Nazir’s office where people can use ATM cards for making the payments. In the pilot project, e-payments can be done through netbanking only,” Zende added.
