Pune district's power failure due to snakes, birds

Pune: If not the huge power demand which has tripped the power lines, but the animals like snakes and birds left the urban and rural parts of Pune district powerless (without electricity). Thus, the complaints of power failure kept the staff of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) running.

The intermittent power failure in the urban and rural part of Pune District interestingly was because of cats, mouses and snakes.

In some parts of the district including the city, four to five feet dead snakes were found on the underground cables, transformers, electric poles due to which the short circuit happened and the power supply was disrupted.

"During repair work of transformers, electric poles engineers found some live snakes in feeder pillars and underground cables. Also, in some parts of rural areas, big birds sitting over the high voltage wires or on the electric poles also caused power disruption. However, Mahavitran has urged engineers and staff to take appropriate precautions while doing the repair work," said MSEDCL Pune region Public Relation Officer Nishikant Raut.

"It has been found that citizens are throwing garbage near feeder pillar, DP boxes and transformers which is also damaging the cables as residents put the fire to garbage," he added.
