Pune: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to start its own training centre in the city. The centre will be beneficial for four states including Maharashtra. The centre will be used to impart training for ECI officers and employees about election-related work and activities.
The ECI has identified three locations for setting up this training centre. The centre will be established and will work on lines of the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (Yashada) which is situated on Baner road near Pune University.
The ECI is looking for a location with an area of about two acres land plot for establishing the centre. ECI has already scouted locations near Wagholi, Bavdhan and Tathawade. ECI is considering proximity to the airport, railway station, metro lines and other facilities before finalizing the location. The location will be decided considering the ease of access and scope for facilities at the location.
Besides training facilities, the centre will also have a library, auditorium and accommodation facilities for the ECI officers. The centre will mostly be used for training District Collectors and other senior officers who are engaged in General and Assembly election work.
