Pune: A 37-year-old man has been arrested by Hadapsar police on charges of sexually violating a 34-year-old woman and sending her obscene photos to her relatives. The two had been Facebook friends for last two years and the suspect allegedly took undue advantage of their friendship to exploit the woman sexually.

The suspect has been identified as Pankaj Ramnath Udavant (37), a resident of Manjari Budruk in Hadapsar. The 34-year-old woman has filed a complaint against Pankaj at the Baramati police station. Baramati police registered the case and transferred it to Hadapsar police station. After this, the suspect was arrested by Hadapsar police.

According to police, Pankaj had sent a friend request to the woman in April 2018 which she had accepted. Later, they both started chatting with each other and became good friends. A few days later, Pankaj asked the woman to meet him in Pune city. She trusted him and came to Pune to meet him. Pankaj then allegedly took her to a relative’s home where they both were alone. Pankaj reportedly raped the woman in that house.

Later, when the woman had come to Pune city during Ganeshotsav, Pankaj asked her to meet again. She met Pankaj at that time but he had then clicked some obscene photos of her. Later when the woman refused to meet him, Pankaj threatened to make the photos viral on social media. Pankaj had also sent the obscene photos to one of her relatives after the woman refused to meet him. When the woman came to know about this, she approached the Baramati police and registered a case against Pankaj.
