Pune: Gym owners demand reopening of their establishments

Pune: Around 2,200 gyms in Pune are closed in the wake of the novel coronavirus over two and a half months. The gym owners now have demanded and approached the Pune Divisional Commissioner to restart of the gyms.

More than 20 dedication team associated with Pune Fitness Club Association met the divisional Commissioner Dr Deepak Mhaisekar and requested him to give directions of restarting gym.

Maharashtra comprises of more than 50,000 gyms.

Speaking to Sakal Times Nilesh Kale, President of Gym Association said, "It's more than 82 days, the gyms are closed due to Covid19 pandemic. And most of the gyms are on rental bases and many working in this sector are badly affected. The situation is critical for the owners also as they need to manage the monthly rent, electricity bills, payments of gym instructors and more.  Also, the machinery on the fitness arena is in operated.”

He added, "We will abide by the laws and safety measures. As well as people having health issues will not be allowed.  We also further demanded that if we get an opportunity to restart the gym we will take one session of each person on an hourly bases to avoid over-crowding.”

Mangesh More a Pune based gym owner talking to Sakal Times, said, "This pandemic is all about immunity system becoming stronger and we can help in fitness way.  People are now in boredom and getting violent sitting at home.  At least some movement in the body will help them. We are ready to take undue all precautions measured and also give in undertaking also to abide by the law. "

The administration commenting on the issue said, "The decision is being handled and taken by the Maharashtra State Government and we are following it. We agree that there is a lot of difficulties they are facing but we have noted their grievances and issues. We will look forward to a higher authority and they will make decisions."
