Pune: In a shocking case of animal cruelty, 19 dogs have been reportedly found dead in Pune in four days. After corpses of 12 stray dogs suspected to have been poisoned to death in Pimple Gurav area another carcasses of four dogs were found in Sangvi on Wednesday. With this, the number of dogs poisoned to death has gone up to 19.
Police officials stated, during two days, as many as seven stray dogs were found dead and two of the bodies were found burnt. According to reports, seven more stray dogs were found dead within the radius of 1 km of the area where earlier dogs were killed. The dead bodies of dogs was found at Shivneri Colony and Shrishti Chowk in Pimple Gurav area. In another cruel incident, one dog was thrown from the fourth floor in one building. He was set ablaze to death.
Some are under the radar of suspicion of poisoning the stray dogs. Many also think that people may be irked by dogs' barking and defecating in the area.
Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons. Meanwhile, Pune animal rights activists are up in arms about unidentified people prowling the area and killing stray dogs. The animal welfare group has also requested the police to take stringent against the offenders.
