Pune: PMC to set up investment facilitation centre, allocates Rs 6.25 crore for skilling infra upgrade

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon set up an investment facilitation cell to attract investments in the city. The PMC has also allocated Rs 6.25 crore in the FY 2021-22 budget for upgrading the ITI, setting up an investment facilitation cell and providing mentorship regarding employment and financial assistance to the youth.

PMC Standing Committee Chairman Hemant Rasane made this announcement during his budget speech on Monday (March 1). Rasane also stated that Rs 2 crore funds will be set aside for arranging workshops, camps and lecture series for creating awareness about the central government’s Start-up India Scheme, Mudra loan scheme and other employment related schemes which are proving beneficial to the youth.

Similar to the central and state government initiatives, the PMC has also decided to attract investors in the city. In order to create an investor-friendly ecosystem in the city, PMC will soon set up an investment facilitation cell. The cell will function on the principle of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’.

A fund of Rs 1.10 crore has been kept aside for revamping the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Industrial Training Institute. The institute will be revamped to make it a model ITI as per the National Skill Qualification and state government’s programme. Students are offered more than 200 courses in this institute including fitter, carpenter, electrician courses.

The PMC has also said that students will get a 50 per cent discount for availing various government certificates from Maha e-Seva facilitation centres for the purpose of education, jobs and other government schemes. These centres are situated in 15 wards of the PMC.

Candidates undertaking research through University Grants Commission (UGC) recognised universities, regarding various projects, developmental work and functioning of the PMC, will be awarded scholarships. For this purpose, an amount of Rs 10 lakh has been kept aside in the budget.
