Pune: The timely arrival of a team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) saved a girl from being gang-raped by 7-8 persons near the Alandi railway station on Friday night.

On November 22, during the section patrolling near the Alandi railway station, PCC Kasar, Inspector, RPF, Ghorpadi, and staff BG Konde and NR Kumbhar, noticed an abandoned two-wheeler at 11.30 pm.

On flashing the torchlight, an unknown person ran away crossing the railway track through the paddy field. They found a girl near abandoned LC gate lodge.

As per details shared by RPF Assistant Security Commissioner CS Chengappa, “On enquiry with the girl, who looked frightened, she disclosed that she was pursuing her studies in the city. She, along with three male friends, had come on a four-wheeler. While they were sitting inside the vehicle, 7 to 8 people armed with swords, iron rods and machetes came on bikes and started quarrelling without any reason. The girl’s friends ran away leaving her alone.”

“The miscreants took advantage of the situation and took the girl near the abandoned LC gate lodge with the intention of raping her. In the meantime, RPF staff flashed the torchlight and saw the miscreants running away,” he said.

Inspector Kasar and staff secured the girl and informed the matter to the local Loni Kalbhor Police station, under the jurisdiction of Pune rural police and informed Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF, Pune and RPF control room.
