Pune: Taking advantage of the coronavirus outbreak and to earn easy money in such situations, two youths have been arrested by the Pimpri Chinchwad police for allegedly betting in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Pune on Saturday.

The police have arrested the suspect who has been identified as Lalchand Sharma and Jayaramdas Fotyani. Both have been zeroed down while travelling in a four-wheeler and collecting money for betting.

In this regard, the police have arrested two persons for betting on IPL matches in one of the posh areas of Pimpri based society cum commercial complex and they have seized goods and cash total estimated worth of Rs 24.27 lakh from the duo.

According to police, "Both the arrested persons were travelling in a four-wheeler and accepting bets for IPL matches. We had received information that two persons were betting for IPL matches in the limits of Pimpri area which falls under the jurisdiction of Pimpri police station. Based on the information received, a team of senior police inspector Milind Waghmare raided the spot."

He added, "In this operation, our officer has seized four mobiles, one book in which noting was used to make about the deals. It is in a code language. Rs 5,000 cash and an Innova car. A case has been registered against both the accused under the relevant section under Section 12 (a) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act. We are investigating and probing to gain the involvement of a big racket."
