Pune: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has provided a new power connection of 604 KW to Sassoon General Hospital within eight hours. The new building of the hospital is being used as an isolation ward due to the coronavirus epidemic.
The 11-storey building was constructed a few years ago to house a super-speciality facility and was lying unused owing to lack of funds. This resulted in the administration not undertaking ancillary works and setting up equipment. Recently, the State government granted the administrative approval for spending Rs 41.03 crore on the project.
“The 11-storey building had no power connection. On April 2, the office received a letter for providing an electrical connection. Within 36 hours, the power supply to the building was started,” said MSEDCL Public Relation Officer Nishikant Raut.
“It is necessary to set up transformers for giving high-pressure electric supply. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was decided to set up transformers in a short time frame. The work started at 9 am on Friday with the help of Kanchan Tele Infra Engineer’s Vikram Shendge. Till 5 pm on the same day, the work was completed, and electric supply resumed to the building,” Raut added.
The work was completed by Bund Garden Divisional Executive Engineer Satish Rajdeep, Additional Executive Engineer Satish Kulkarni (Wadia Subdivision), Anil Kurade (Testing Department), Assistant Engineer Siddhartha Sonsale, staff Anil Chawke, Sunil Surnar and Ajay Thackrey.
