Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has been ranked seventh in India in the Times Higher Education Ranking (THER). SPPU has secured the first rank among the traditional universities in the country. The first six ranks include Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and five IITs.
THER world university ranking 2018 has released ranks of top 1,000 universities across the globe. It is the data provider underpinning university excellence in every continent across the world. The criteria to fit the rankings are quality in teaching, research, knowledge and international recognition.
SPPU is ranked 10th in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) while it stood third in 2016 and second in 2017 in the nation under traditional university category of THER.
The varsity has progressed its standards in teaching and research work while holding the fourth position in the evaluation of teaching standards. “I am happy with the rank given by THER rankings. For past two-three years, we have been intensively working towards improvement of quality in teaching and other sectors. By securing such a rank THE has assured that we have been successful in our struggle to impart quality education,” said the Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, Nitin Karmalkar.
