Pune: To facilitate rail users and to ease the entry and exit from Pune railway station, a newly built main entry gate and ramp was inaugurated on Friday. Member of Parliament Anil Shirole was the chief guest of this function. A new ramp and a new entrance gate are aimed at reducing the traffic congestion at the busy area.

The ramp has been built at the Pune railway station chowk just before the main entrance gate of the station. The existing main gate will be closed for vehicles and will only be used for pedestrians.

Shirole, who inaugurated the ramp, said that he is happy to open the ramp as it will ease the troubles of commuters. He said that he will continue to support the work being done by the Pune Railway Division.

Divisional Railway Manager BK Dadabhoy said, “This will help in smooth entry of vehicles into the station. We have also shifted an autorickshaw stand. The new parking area has also opened up for commuters,” said Dadabhoy.

Praful Chandra, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Krishnath Patil, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and other divisional officers were present.

Upgradation of security system
The security system at the railway station is being upgraded by undertaking work to plug about seven to eight unauthorised entry points that put the railway premises and passengers at the risk of intruders.
The unauthorised entry points have remained a big headache from the security point of view of the station which is among the most sensitive locations in the city.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will also get a under-vehicle scanner which will help it to secure the cars that enter the premise to pick up and drop passengers. The RPF is also in the process of getting three more baggage scanners.

At present, it has only one baggage scanner which is installed at the main entrance gate.
