PUNE: The State government has issued instructions to all municipal corporations, including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), to speed up work of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) as Maharashtra’s progress of the scheme is not satisfactory as compared to other states.
In Pune, the civic body has set a target of providing 20,000 housing units for the urban poor till 2022. Of these, the PMC started a housing project of 786 units in Kharadi. It will draw a lottery for the project next month.
Recently, the State government’s Urban Development Department issued an order mentioning that Maharashtra has a backlog in PMAY. All municipal corporations and districts will have to speed up the work. The government also asked them to adopt modern, innovative and green technologies and building materials for faster and quality construction of these houses.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs of the Central government has advised all states and Union Territories on geo-tagging of ‘Beneficiary led Individual House Construction’ component of the PMAY (Urban) Mission.
LUCKY DRAW NEXT MONTH IN PUNE
Speaking to Sakal Times, PMC’s Building and Construction Department’s Rajendra Raut said, “The civic body has set a target of 20,000 houses under the PMAY for 2022. Under this, three housing projects’ Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been approved at Kharadi (786 houses), Hadapsar (350) and Wadgaon Budruk (1200). Of these, the Kharadi project work has started, for which PMC will hold a lucky draw next month.”
He said, “Of the total 1.25 lakh applications, only 20,000 applications are eligible for the EWS category under the PMAY. PMC is making a DPR of Kondhwa (800 houses), Balewadi (1,200) projects. Besides, private builders will construct 6,000 units under PPP (public private Partnership) in Hadapsar, Dhanori and Lohegaon areas.”
MAHARASHTRA IN TOP FIVE
In line with the government’s vision of ‘Housing for All’ by 2022, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been implementing PMAY-U since June 2015 for providing assistance to states/Union Territories (UTs) in addressing the housing requirements of the people belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories in urban areas.
The Union government has set a target to construct one crore houses under the scheme.
According to the Union government’s urban housing Ministry, 15,263 projects have been sanctioned till January 31, 2019, which have 72,65,763 housing units.
Of these, 14,42,796 have been completed. Andhra Pradesh (11.29 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (9.58 lakh), Maharashtra (7.87 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (6.46 lakh) and
Tamil Nadu (6.04 lakh) are the five major states, which have 57 per cent housing share.
The Ministry also pointed out that no major state, including Maharashtra, has achieved a 50 per cent target to construct houses under PMAY. Gujarat, Telangana and Tamil Nadu are ahead in construction of houses.
