The Indian cricket team will don the iconic dark-blue team kit from the 1992 World Cup. India opener Shikhar Dhawan confirmed that Team India will wear this jersey for their three-match ODI series against Australia starting from Friday.

The dark blue coloured jersey with broad-coloured stripes across the shoulder has significant value as it marked the beginning of coloured clothing at a 50-over World Cup.

Dhawan shared a photograph of new jersey on Twitter on Tuesday. “New jersey, renewed motivation, ready to go,” tweeted Dhawan. The kit is of dark-blue colour and has coloured stripes on the shoulder and has the names of Team India’s new sponsors Byju’s and kit sponsors MPL.

Meanwhile, the Australian team will also be wearing an indigenous jersey for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India beginning December 4, after the completion of three-match ODI series. The first two ODIs will be played in Adelaide while final fifty-overs fixture will be in Canberra.

India had defeated Australia 2-1 in the ODI series, the last time. This ODI series will mark India’s first limited-overs fixture after nine months. The last ODI played was against New Zealand in February this year. India’s fixtures against South Africa, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe had to be cancelled amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
