Mumbai: The VIVO IPL 2021 player auction list was released with a total of 292 players set to go under the hammer in Chennai on February 18. Earlier, 1,114 players had registered for auction. The franchises shortlisted 292 players, which comprises of 164 Indians and 125 overseas players.
In a good news for Sachin Tendulkar and his fans, Sachin’s son Arjun Tendulkar also made it to the shortlisted players list in the all-rounders category at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. The 21-year-old son of batting legend made his T20 debut recently in the 2020-21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also played two matches for Mumbai in the premier domestic T20 tournament and bagged two wickets from two matches.
On the other side, former India pacer S Sreesanth who had reportedly registered his name for the auction of world’s biggest cricket festival had failed to make the cut. The Kerala speedgun who returned to competitive cricket after seven years was hopeful of getting shortlisted at the auction and play in the cricketing league once again. He was banned from cricket due to spot-fixing.
He was named in Kerala's Syed Mushtaq Ali Torphy squad where he played all five matches for his state bowling 18 overs and managed to grab four wickets at average of 44.50.
Meanwhile, a total of 10 players have been shortlisted with the highest base price of Rs 2 crore, which has veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and all-rounder Kedar Jadhav. Talking about the overseas players, – Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy and Mark Wood have chosen to be slotted in the highest bracket. 12 players are in the auction list with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav are the two Indian players in the list of 11 cricketers with a base price of INR 1 crore.
