Pune: A new-look Deccan Gymkhana pavilion, renamed to Talim (Cricket) Pavilion was inaugurated by former India cricketer Karsan Ghavri.

Named after former Ranji Trophy player Late T. V. Talim, the function was attended by his grandson Suhas, who also is an ex-Maharashtra Ranji player.

Ghavri commended the initiative taken by the cricket department of Deccan Gymkhana in renovating the age old pavilion and appreciated the new look with modern facilities.

Recollecting nostalgic moments of his association with the club, Ghavri remembered playing at Deccan Gymkhana, while representing Saurashtra against Maharashtra about 50 years ago.

Among his other recollections, Ghavri mentioned the time when he was denied a bowling spell, while playing against England under the captaincy of EAS Prasanna, when the leading trio could not fetch any success. He spoke of Sunil Gavaskar, in the absence of captain Prasanna, gave him a spell and he proved his confidence by bagging 5/35 in the match. He explained that it was this performance that helped him take his career’s wicket-tally to 101 wickets as a pace bowler and 8 wickets as a spinner. For the record, Ghavri played in 39 Test matches.
