Xiaomi users, there's a good chance that 2021 will bring you a much-anticipated update. Along with its MI 11, the company recently unveiled a new OS for its smartphones: MIUI 12.5. This update launched in China in the past week, and apart from an upgraded performance, it also adds a few improved security features.
MIUI 12:5: What to expect?
It does seem as though Xiaomi hasn't given away a lot in this update, considering MIUI 13 would be on its way. However, the company claims that MIUI 12.5 is lighter, faster, and more effective than its former versions. Xiaomi also insists that it uses 20 per cent fewer cores than it used to, with 35 per cent less background memory, and 25 per cent less power consumption.
New sounds? Yes, please!
MIUI 12 introduced us to a host of nature-inspired soundtracks, which users could use as their alarm tone, ringtone or other event tones if required. With MIUI 12.5, this feature sees another expansion with more nature-based sounds from the jungles of Amazon, Africa to icy fjords of the Arctic. Xiaomi also explained how it captured these sounds from about 120 flora and fauna.
It has an option of more sounds, including those from natural elements such as wood, sand and water. Apart from this, you will also find that the company has improved its haptics and feedback vibrations. So you will find it easier to navigate between gestures and typing.
The new & improved Notes App
Along with the Notes icon changing, Xiaomi has also added several new features. These include curating Indented lists with the ability to collapse; or if you want to create brain maps out of these lists with one click. The revamped Notes app can draw and doodle, and a lot more! Furthermore, this update has brought forth an interesting graffiti function as well as optimisation for finger painting.
Privacy, first!
With a special emphasis on privacy, Xiaomi has expanded the scope to maintain privacy over four sectors. These include Clipboard Protection, File Storage (Sandbox Mechanism), Browser, and Location (Fuzzy Positioning). Clipboard protection keeps a record of apps, which allow users to know of those who go overboard to examine the copied contents.
However, Fuzzy Position is a unique new feature that you can use to disguise your location up to a few meters away from your destination. This feature helps in improving safety in a lot of situations that are otherwise considered dangerous.
When will you get hold of it?
Xiaomi will hopefully make this update available to the public by April 2021. However, if you're feeling adventurous, you can always opt to try out the beta version, that rolled out for selective users.
